TerraPower is constructing its first reactor near a retiring coal facility in Kemmerer, Wyoming, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. Engineers and developers are no longer treating the Natrium reactor as just a concept—they are actively constructing it as the only advanced, non-light water reactor in the Western Hemisphere. And they designed it to address the challenges of the clean energy transition. Located near a former coal plant, the Natrium facility demonstrates nuclear energy’s role in reducing global carbon emissions. Additionally, TerraPower also expects... Continue Reading
Cheniere Energy Gets First Chance at LNG Export
Cheniere Energy (LNG) and Cheniere Partners (CQP), its midstream subsidiary, are ready to start a new era in the US natural gas industry with the commissioning of the first LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) export cargo from the U.S. Previously, the US exported LNG only from Alaska. LNG is a clear, odorless, noncorrosive liquid that is formed when natural gas is cooled to around -260 degrees Fahrenheit. This shrinks the volume by about 600 times, making the resource easier to store and transport through marine shipments. Then, liquid is converted back… Continue Reading
